Theft Prevention in Action
08/24/2012
Thanks to the Theft Prevention Program, a stolen iphone valued at $700 was recently recovered. The phone had been previously registered with the Brownsburg School Police, which provided identifying information about the phone. BCSCPD in coordination with school administration investigated and was able to locate the phone and verify that it was indeed stolen. Without the information provided in the registration, it is likely that the phone would not have been identified as the stolen property. Most people do not maintain this information on their own, and when their property is stolen, so is the identifying information needed to recover it. This is particularly true for electronic items such as cell phones and ipods. Thankfully in this case, the property was returned to its rightful owner.
If you are a student at Brownsburg High School and would like to register your device, you may pick up a form in your team office. It is also important to remember that it is your responsibility to protect your property and keep it safe. Leaving an expensive electronic unsecured is just asking for it to be stolen. Registering your device is helpful, as evidenced in this case. Combined with increased awareness about protecting your valuables, the occurrence of theft at Brownsburg High School can be significantly reduced.
